The Chairman and the entire Akwa United football family deeply sympathize with Lobi Stars Football Club over the death of their Team Manager and an Ex-International Mr Barnabas Imenger who passed on in the early hours of Monday 22nd March 2021 in Abuja. The team media wrote.

Reacting to the sad news, Chairman of Akwa United FC Elder Paul Bassey described the passing of Mr. Barnabas Imenger as a “great loss and a sad moment for Lobi Stars FC, Benue State Football Association and the entire football fraternity”.
“We are shocked by the sad news of the demise of Mr. Barnabas Imenger. He was a great football player/manager and an easy going person. Few seasons ago, his son Barnabas Imenger Jr was our player and that really drew us closer to the Imenger family.
“It’s shocking and difficult to believe that Mr Barnabas Imenger is leaving now that his contributions to the development of football in Nigeria is mostly needed.
“All of us at Akwa United join the football family to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Mr. Barnabas Imenger, we pray God to grant his family, Lobi Stars Football Club and Benue State Football Association the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss”.
