This came after the team crashed out from the caf Champions League.
The sport enthusiast however denied the termination of Mfon Udoh contract.
He stated that they only choose to go against renewing his contract, which just expired.
“Mfon Udoh? His contract had ended. He was on loan. We thought we should not renew it (Mfon Udoh’s contract)”. Paul Bassey, to XL FM
Meanwhile, still speaking to the radio station Mr Paul Bassey, claimed Effiong, has been heavily criticised by the journalist.
But, he debunked the rumors which link him to Akwa United crashing out of CAF Champions League.
“Otobong Effiong is one of those players that has really, really been on the receiving end of journalists’ attacks. They said he’s expired, they said he’s being rehabilitated, and so on. And then, the next moment, we reviewed his contract and thought we shouldn’t sign him for this season. And the next thing, [critics say] ‘Why did you not sign Otobong?’”
“If you (critics) are investigative enough, let them provide letters of sack or termination of appointment. It’s clear they had come to the end of their contracts, but people have linked it to so many things. People (critics) have sat down and become magicians. They (critics) are saying the Akwa United management played God, that’s why they were sacked, and so on.
It happens in the life of every football team. At the end of the season, as you negotiate the next season, you (the club) review the contracts of your players. Otobong? I don’t remember the last time he played a match for 90 minutes. Mfon Udoh wasn’t the Mfon Udoh that we knew four, five years ago. We just have to let them go.” Paul Bassey claimed.
Akwa United are now preparing hard for new NPFL season.
