The two sides go into Sunday’s game on the back of similar results from match day 24. The host Heartland FC drew 0-0 against Enyimba in Aba while Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw by Wikki Tourist FC at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Monday.

Heartland currently occupies the 10th position with 34 points from 24 matches and will be in desperate need of the points on Sunday to move up the log.

Rivers United on the other hand are placed 4th, having amassed 41 points, from 24 matches and are just four points behind current leader Akwa United and know they cannot afford to drop points if they are to remain in the title Dog fight.

Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma is as experienced as they come and understands the magnitude of this kind of clash.

“It’s a local derby, anything can happen. We are preparing to go and play Heartland, believing that, yes, we can pick points from Owerri if we put up a good effort, make good fight.” Eguma told our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.

“So, we are not going to allow today’s (Monday’s) result to affect our morale. I think we have to psyche ourselves up, and then ensure that we are in a better mood to play because it’s always a derby (against Heartland) and you expect a very tough game.”
